WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF THE STUDY?
Objective: To identify the factors that influence the transition from the non-care-seeking to the care-seeking-state for women with UI.
HOW AND WHEN WILL INTERVIEWS BE TAKING PLACE?
Interviews will be scheduled on an individual basis with each participant. Scheduling preferences and preferred method of contact (via zoom or telephone) can be indicated in the intake questionnaire.
WHO IS CONDUCTING THE STUDY?
This study is being led by two Translational Research Program Master's Candidates, Dr. Philip Bhoorasingh (a urologist) and Sterling Lewis. We have also partnered with the Canadian Continence Foundation as well as amassing a team of advisors composed of content experts and patient advocates.
HOW DO I BENEFIT FROM PARTICIPATING?
Impact statement: Approximately 2-4% of women over 45-years of age are experiencing bothersome UI and do not seek treatment. The knowledge gained from this study will help create an intervention to facilitate care-seeking among these women. Increasing care-seeking can reduce the physical, psychological, and economic burden of the disease.
Participants will also be compensated with a $20 VISA gift card for participating in interviews.
WHAT IS BEING ASKED OF PARTICIPANTS?
Participants are being asked to:
1. Sign consent forms for the collection of their data and provide ongoing consent that will be verified verbally and via consecutive consent forms
2. Complete the intake questionnaire to determine eligibility
3. Participate in the online survey concerning UI in the COVID-19 context
4. Participate in semi-structured interviews aimed at understanding the facilitators of the transition from a non-care-seeking to a care-seeking state
